Stew Perry 160

Always high expectations for this contest but now we have poor low band propagation era with high SF figures.. 190 QSO  Final contest of 2013 the Stew Perry 160m DX Challenge propagation poor as expected best DX    22point NP2X FM5CD    in the past hard to QSO but his year easy.  Improved EU RX antenna ? W6IZT KV4FZ  heard only JH4UYB JA3YBK HD2RAE CE1/K7CA In the morning only a few weak signals  I should have gone back to bed.. Hoping to catch HD2RAE  but his  signal was at best just Q5 and had better path to Scandinavia when I heard him a bit better. I heard them until 9 am >1 hour after sunrise working W annoyances  this week: Web browsers freezing my PC's They refuse to switch off and resist the taskmanager switching the process off. On both of my PC's It seems like a war between MS and other browsers is going on. When starting Gmail in MS-IE a warning pops up advising you to use a modern browser like Chrome.... 80m VK2DX  3505  599  tonight easy worked in EU pile low power and " improved"  vertical. I had to take the mast down anyway the rotor was struck and a 40m bnd top load came down in the Christmas storm.  I used a fiber fishing rod  fitted in a PVC tube as 4m side arm  to keep the 80m vertical wire as clear as possible from the main metal mast. The dipole is 9m50  long at 22m a.g. for reference. recording of VK2DX http://www.qsl.net/pa0oos/recall2013/vk2dx_80.mp3 40m DP1POL  Neumayer Antarctica   soms WSPR 10m  actief http://www.qsl.net/pa0oos/recall2013/dp1pol_40.mp3

ARRL160m

First night: Friday evening the gusty wind  finally calmed down a bit and I managed to tilt the mast up. The wind was turned to N-E . Some hail and wet snow showers  made it a cold job. Also the K9AY was re-erected. No damage  only the rotator turned very slow now for unknown reason no things visible jamming it. The multi band wire dipole 40/30/12 became spaghetti.  No way to unravel  in the dark. Wire antenna's will struck to anything that touches it. But I was ready for ARRL160 I entered L.P. single  3.1. Single Operator (use of spotting networks is NOT PERMITTED): 3.1.1. QRP (5 watts or less) 3.1.2. Low Power (150 watts or less) 3.1.3. High Power (1500 watts or less or your country's maximum power limit It cost me a few dB the K3 KPA3 output sometimes drops to 80W my old tube FT102 could get 150W out.  The KPA3 should be able to give 120W out. And  not using spots / dx cluster  I like to see what's going on. It does not really help the cluster spots  s

T30TS 7015 DX enzo

LU6W Escondia

In FUNK magazine this month is the incredible story about activating the island Escondia SA-096 By PA3EXX LU5WW LU1FAM   Amazing story  almost  hard to believe  what they did to activate this rare IOTA SA-096 island  http://dx-world.net/2013/lu6w-escondida-island-sa-096/  Swimming in dangerous cold water risking injuries losing rigs and setting up a station in the middle of a colony   of stinking hostile sea-lion's . I am not an IOTA hunter but I am deep impressed by this expedition.

shack empty still WSPR on

After more then 20 years my radio room had to be complete cleared out for a new floor. What a lot of things gathered together in all these years. It is a travel back in time this cleaning up operation. It took many days to remove 3 tables 2 bureaus and all other furniture and radio stuff Including even my LP record collection.  Good that my cat is helping me where she can. The room sounds empty the acoustic is better. Now only 1 shelf on the wall with the K3 is left And still running WSPR 10m is very good today heard KH7Y lp 28400 loud with EU pile. first time this season a 80m west-coast decode and again the best possible DX on 28MHz 2013-11-28 08:24 ZL2IT 28.126084 -23 0 RF80km 5 PA0O JO33hg 18312 337 2013-11-28 07:46 W1CK 3.594049 -12 0 DM13ie 5 PA0O JO33hg 8987 30

CQWWCW 2013

recordings of T33A and K9W Wake Island.

This evening weak but workable T33A and first time heard K9W 40m rather weak possible not the best propagation tonight but my first time to copy them. Just fixed my 30/40m inverted V Used rotary dipole for 40m.   Lot of QRI  including the crazy  QRX / "contester"  Dx-pedition jammer  I have lost a bit my taste for joining DX-pedition pileup's with all the anti ham-spirit that comes with it. But could not ignore these interesting DX-peditions because of this. So I listened and tried just to ignore the deliberate QRI just as if it not existing. Just wait until the jammer(s)  get tired and keep on listening for the right moment to call. I  check my rig settings  to prevent unwanted simplex calling. And If some ham makes that mistake  just do not join the up up concert causing more QRM then the HAM that send's simplex by mistake.   When tuning I check the tune freq before and in between to prevent QRM-ing  not like some hams seem to do. Just start tuning o
