Third year in a row 2nd . Before PA4O showed up I used to rack up first places — ten in a row — but those glory days are gone, hihi.
Logged around 1400 QSOs. My SteppIR 3‑el froze solid at –8°C during the night, so that was the end of that. Had to fall back on the old multiband dipole, part of a lightweight Hidaka Denki Works 4‑el yagi.
As usual, the rate collapsed around 02:00 local, even though the RBN still showed the bands open. Took a break until 06:00 — no way I’m catching Peter PA4O, he always digs up more QSOs, 200 more! somehow. Ran the trusty K3, the CW beast, with the dipole on 10/15/20/40, Windom on 80/40, and a 25‑m high inverted‑L for 160.
Had the Flex 6500 in SO2R with the SO2Rduino (K1XM), but honestly it didn’t help much. Band switching in N1MM with Page Up/Down is quick enough. It was an SO2R experiment anyway. Might have helped Sunday morning with the 3‑el to the east on 10 or 15, but with the SteppIR frozen stiff that plan died fast.
