CQWWCW huge CW activity 160 - 10m bands

Started  LP but  switched  to HP needed some heating anyway sitting at the radio K3 + ACOM1000  .  Weather in the weekend too nasty to be outside.

Mostly looking for outside my zone, 3 point QSO's  no planning for 100% score but during the test i became more and more fanatic fired by the interesting DX workable even on 10.

Had very nice long run USA VE  Sunday afternoon 15 and 20  until 20 became quiet.

That was my longest N.A.  run ever, with very good signals  astonished  by the endless  callers from Zone 3 4 5

All zones except 19 and 34 could be worked.

For a higher score I should have  spend more time at 40 and 80 and collect more cty multies.

But even then i would probably not reach the EU top 50 , So i spend nice  time on 10 for goodies

E2E E2A heard well at 10 but even with high power not copied  deja vue too high noise  i guess. VK3DX loud   no ZL on 10  But today Tuesday morning ZL3OY was -3 in 10m FT8 , would have been a good copy in CW. ultime DX for us.  Sunday 10 propagation was better then Saturday.

Also  thinking what always happens Sunday evening to the end of the contest at 80.
3B8M(4 bands)  9G5FI (6 bands wkd) or other  DX  multipliers will be at 80 with good signals
Pulling a huge pile of EU callers not allowing anyone the simple exchange to get into the log. Endless tale calling over the running QSO  in fact jamming until the suspect is forced to QRT. Have seen this behaviour in  the previous years with Asia or Africa DX  last chance to work EU.One should never comment that only makes thing worse.
Thinking of  this and being fatigue decided me better to take an early rest and stop with a good feeling about the contest result.

2011-01-22 DIAMOND X30 2m 70cm 1m30 Colinear inside

Having relative poor signals on the local 70cm / 2m channels using this Diamond collinear 70/2 combi antenna at a height of 25m. I needed to investigate what could be wrong. Measuring the cable only 3W is left for the antenna of the 10W 435MHz output from a IC451E The cable is 30m type H100 Z50 10mm outside diameter it is semi air-spaced but has an impossible 4mm² solid CU inner conductor not much air left. I preferred the H43 Z75 cable having lower loss and mechanical better ratio in conductor size but it is no longer selling i think. This H43 3W should be enough for a comfortable noise free FM signal. But only 27km away at PA0A the signal is weak too weak something must be wrong? I made a simple reference dipole of 2x17cm CU wire. With this dipole the signals where totally worse. So the Diamond does work? I got curious to look inside. Maybe moisture penetration degraded the antenna. This  antenna is rainwater close in its normal vertical mounting position. But take care if you

SPF5189z Low noise preamp 23cm

14-4-2018 updated Above the low noise  preamp 50 - 4GHz    ebay  6€ Tested  2 small porto antennas 1 Baofeng UV antenna left   2nd best signal on PI2NOS 2 eBay DIAMONDSRH805S  wide band 144/432/1200  it works for its size as expected 3 piece of wire :   best signal in the setup... Unit under test at workbench. It was stable  50mA  at 5V   few days,  but sudden the current went up to 100mA And i could  no longer adjust it with the negative bias Voltage. The - Voltage went to zero and the SPF input port became low Z. This SPF5189z was broken  no oscillations, no input overload just it broke while i was receiving the PI2NOS 430.125 using a small antenna at the workbench. The specs of  SPF5189z  say it has an internal circuit  regulating the bias current. Replaced . again   with an other of the 5 spare SPF i have. The new one again could be adjusted at 50mA  5V  The current raises to 150mA  when removing the  negative gate voltage. Where is that internal bias cir

TS472 microphone preamp versus MAX9812

MAX9814  seems the best choice  it has AGC and jumpers for gain setting to max 60dB  will test this one to when arrived.  Received this low noise ST TS472  pre-amp  Diymore from eBay. Main while the 3 transistor pre-amp with AVR earlier down in the blog works fine. This TS472 IC is special designed for microphones  electret or magnetic and i was curious to find out how such integrated device performs. With the magnetic  200 OHm Peiker element the signal is fine although not as sensitive as with an electret element. The maximum un-clipped output is about 2Vtt. It did not match the low impedance mike input of the Condor as it is at first test. Minimum drive load is 10k.  An emitter or source driver is needed behind the TS472 and  low impedance tranceivers like the Condor.  No documentation is supplied with it but the PCB looks similar to the  ST  demo board TS472 PCB  well designed.   The standby pad must be +    ,  minus = gnd  will switch to standby.
