Hackrf 1

Now we are locked up in our houses as in a horror S.F. film
The streets and sky are empty
Just few weeks ago we where at our contest location PI4GN  IARU UHF contest at 23cm already the Airplane scatter was affected. We did not know that this would be our last contest .

Saw Youtube Bill Gates warning. In 2015 he almost exact! pointed out what will happen when a Virus like Corona would spread out over the world.
"We" did not act to this serious warnings .
Health authority's like in Taiwan Germany  did act direct in December and January last year
so now when i see our "taskforce" i can't help thinking of that.
Bill Gates said it all  I think of my child wood far travelling was only for few people.
Our school organised a 50km day bus trip.
The Greta generation is flying to Bali after having a well deserved ski holiday.
Everywhere leaving a trail of plastic bottles and cans.

The whole CO2 /energy transfer discussion is gone
I hope the climate church will be replaced by common sense and technical developments
to solve our energy needs.

Hackrf one new tool:

Quick received no extra custom fee..

The recent  received Hackrf1  works nice with SDR-Console
Ordered in China received within 2 weeks..
This is a low cost SDR device i wanted to use as pan adapter
Tested it at my K3 i.f. port ... no signal at first but found the tmp connector was unpluged at the backpanel since i have build in a 144MHz XVTR i forgot the tiny conection
Also i did the I.F. port buffer mod. R8 1k replaced with 13k  ( 8k1+5k2)
Then  saw the 8250kHz wide i.f. signals  on the Hackrf1
a mirror view use LSB  to hear USB signals
the Hackrf1  can cover a wide band to about 20MHz
CAT connection  TS2000 protocol worked after i rebooted my PC
at first the SDR-Console reported to be online over virtual comports but did not respond to WSJT-x band changes.

I also can receive 136kHz  and 474kHz  using external bandfilters made for the  Flex1500Althoug the Flex1500 is still decoding t.a. DX at 630m ,i have not seen that with the Hrf1 yet.

The Hackrf1 should als be able to TX but that i could not get to work yet..
CQWWPX PHONE   20m band some  signals  30kHz wide a splatter festival.
Some hams will use SDR tranceivers + 1k5 Watt  PA or more
SDR is nice but not all signals are clean enough..

YB and E2X at 15m could not even hear me with the ACOM1000 at full output in the 3ele
they keeped calling cq

MacBook Air OS upgrade.

Now i took time to look at the Macbook air of the xyl.
This nice PC was a  unused since we got the iPhone XS fast and high resolution OLED
 remarkable good audio
The MacBook air having some problems:
Apple mail did no (longer) work  no setting could help this out
TV watching never worked   i-TV KPN should work, it works on my Android Huawei
On the mac Always error something with silverline not being the "right version"
of course updating failed ..
I have tried to figure out online what could be wrong but no success.

The MacBook  has 8GB ram 120G SSD i5 CPU so not too bad
good audio and bright picture
Original its OS was OS-X Yosemite  updating seems not possible!
message: no available update found
but on the other hand updating apps gave the message OS version too old...

So i called the helpdesk after some patience  a very helpful Apple specialist  responded
I had to update the OS to Mojave ( speak: mohave)
To do that i got a link to update it
Then the Apple account password  need to append with a pin-code  received from Apple
This number/pin code  had to be requested using the setting menu in the phone
i forgot where exactly...
Append the normal Apple account pwd with this number , no space!
Otherwise the message is: "wrong password"  without any hints why the normal used password sudden is wrong..

Then i was able to start the download of Mojave.
This took about 3  hours my network speed is 10 to 50 Mb/s  using ADSL + extra coupled 4G modem
we have a 7km long telephone line 50 years + ? old

After the Mojave download was complet i could start Install
but... not that easy.. the message now was stop all other programs...
I thought okay go ahead .. but the mac was asking me to stop all other programs..
i am a bit spoiled by windows
Now what other programs ?? i saw no programs running
the only program that must run is the install program itself ... just guessing
again no hint what and how to stop, in Windows ctr alt del gives a menu with the taskmanager
Apple also has this  with 3 keys combination  using google for this
cmd + alt + ESC
then i could see the processes running and had the stop them manual one by one
some resisted  more then others...
finally the install button was released.
and another 2 hours installing followed

Finally Mojave started and it looked good
it seemed the problems where solved
watching our KPN iTV  worked as it should have done years... ago also Apple mail worked again
faster connecting to WLAN it was annoying slow "building" the connection we had to reboot the WLAN app..

Strange enough google search  never gave a hint about that the outdated OS could be the problem..

Now with Mojave running, updating to the most recent OS Catalina was easy just update and reboot
like windows...

The macBook is working very nice again thanks to the many home resting times...

Tnx QSO 10m

SPF5189z Low noise preamp 23cm

14-4-2018 updated

Above the low noise  preamp 50 - 4GHz    ebay  6€

Tested  2 small porto antennas
1 Baofeng UV antenna left   2nd best signal on PI2NOS
2 eBay DIAMONDSRH805S  wide band 144/432/1200  it works for its size as expected
3 piece of wire :   best signal in the setup...

Unit under test at workbench.
It was stable  50mA  at 5V   few days,  but sudden the current went up to 100mA
And i could  no longer adjust it with the negative bias Voltage.
The - Voltage went to zero and the SPF input port became low Z.
This SPF5189z was broken  no oscillations, no input overload just it broke while i was receiving the PI2NOS 430.125 using a small antenna at the workbench.

The specs of  SPF5189z  say it has an internal circuit  regulating the bias current.
Replaced . again   with an other of the 5 spare SPF i have.
The new one again could be adjusted at 50mA  5V
The current raises to 150mA  when removing the  negative gate voltage.
Where is that internal bias circuit ?
I suspect  eBay …

2011-01-22 DIAMOND X30 2m 70cm 1m30 Colinear inside

Having relative poor signals on the local 70cm / 2m channels using this Diamond collinear 70/2 combi antenna at a height of 25m. I needed to investigate what could be wrong.
Measuring the cable only 3W is left for the antenna of the 10W 435MHz output from a IC451E
The cable is 30m type H100 Z50 10mm outside diameter it is semi air-spaced but has an impossible 4mm² solid CU inner conductor not much air left. I preferred the H43 Z75 cable having lower loss and mechanical better ratio in conductor size but it is no longer selling i think. This H43
3W should be enough for a comfortable noise free FM signal. But only 27km away at PA0A the signal is weak too weak something must be wrong? I made a simple reference dipole of 2x17cm CU wire.
With this dipole the signals where totally worse. So the Diamond does work?
I got curious to look inside. Maybe moisture penetration degraded the antenna.
This  antenna is rainwater close in its normal vertical mounting position. But take care if your mast can b…
