USB -serial converters   can rise the local noise level  by 3- 6dB. General eliminating digital originated noise is  much more important then using a low noise pre-amp of course. A low noise pre-amp is made useless by this noise.  If the USB-serial is just plugged in without any RFI protection it can spoil the noise floor on higher bands like 50MHz  and others ( i did not test yet 70) But I noticed  a serious  noise increase when starting the logger program. Also a intermittent noise burst effect 1/ second can be noticed. This noise burst runs synchronised with the data string over the serial port.   When starting N1MM CAT communication over the USB-serial the base noise clearly came up 3-6dB   Then  using the big toroid and a better shielded USB cable it was better. Totaal onverwacht op 6m zaterdag ja zaterdag  een goede opening naar Japan. Voor sommigen was  het echt  ouderwets Jappen tappen ik kon er toch nog wel een redelijk aantal werken met mijn 2 ele.  Sommige JA calls zoals JH6CDI  stond al in het 6m log 5 augustus 2009.. Lang geleden dat ik zoveel JA's heb kunnen werken  1989  zal dat  geweest zijn. Maar nu helaas toch met een marginale antenne. Het meest opvallende was het haast volledig afwezig zijn van band1 TV QRM.  Dat was in cyclus 22 de grote DX killer.  De openingen waren toen veel beter F2  en niet  deze speciale midsummer  JA propagatie  niet echt vergelijkbaar. Maar  ik denk dat deze relatief zwakke JA signalen wel helemaal zouden verdrinken in de TV QRM. zo kan het natuurlijk ook..    JL8GFB    het meeste aluminium staat toch aan de overkant maar een 2element   doet het ook prima hoor QTF  was normal 0...

Toch nog weer eens geprobeerd de Flex1500 te laten werken met de Lenovo W510 Dat werkte niet meer. Maar nu lijkt het toch de USB poort te zijn. De Lenovo heeft 2 stuks USB3(geel) links zijkant   1 x eSATA/USB combi  en 1x USB2(blauw) achter. Siematic werkt alleen op de achterste USB2. En Flexradio blijkbaar ook alleen op USB2. Ik dacht toch dat de Flex op alle poorten had gewerkt. Maar nu niet meer. Ik krijg zelfs een blue screen  het gewraakte blue screen of death  uit lang vervlogen tijden als ik probeerde de Power SDR ontvanger te starten. Nu nog eens  geprobeerd op de USB2  en zowaar geen blue screen maar zelfs geluid! Vreemd eerder had ik al dat P-SDR normaal startte maar geen signaal of ontvangst. Later dus ook een onmiddellijke crash syssteem dump blue screen. Veel QRL werkdruk. WSPR thuis aangelaten op 50MHz en 80m Paar keer CN8LI op 6m   en op 80m 5ZVK1UN Slechte propagatie de laatste weken. Nou dan maar wat anders  over auto's  b.v. Ik ben niet zo'n auto man maar nu kon ik eens vergelijken. Af en toe wel eens een huur auto vaak haast nieuwe. Zelf had ik lange tijd een (SL)Opel combo  met zelf gemaakte slaapbank erg handig  Isuzu diesel motor Onverwoestbaar maar de carrosserie roestte nogal  hevig helaas weg naar de sloop. Nu een Hyundai Tucson mooi hoor rijd goed en veilig hoog op de weg maar spartaanse uitvoering. Nog geen temperatuur meter  dat had zelfs de Combo wel.. het was een impuls aankoop. Nu voor QRL  Enige tijd een Renault Laguna  luxe uitvoering. Erg mooie luxe auto. Rijdt perfect krachtige diesel motor snel. Actie radius c.a. 800km  bij redelijk tempo  130-160. TR4W TR4W (TR for Windows) is a free-ware program for operating in amateur radio contests. Program is based on source code of the TR LOG MS-DOS program, kindly provided by Larry Tyree, N6TR (author of TR LOG). The basic idea of the TR4W project is porting TR LOG code to the Windows environment. TR4W is written in pure Windows API (application programming interface) and designed to be as small and fast as possible. Size of the executable file is only 160 kB. BLF177 4M  Now I found some time to make a decent drawing of my howework using SchemeIT  a nice on-line schematic drawing tool.  Offered by Digikey, did not find the BNC connector symbol. Digi Parts sells almost everything  it works simple and fast it comes close to the feel and touch of hand drawing.  I have used ULTIBOARD  and before ORCAD .  But Ultiboard is to heavy and complicated for just drawing a small nice schematic. R1 had to be a carbon type 0.5W this was essential to stop oscillations. for R2  10x // 180Ohms metal are used here.  This schematic is partly a copy of Phillips application note In the Phillips application R2 has lower value I did not try that.  A 10-5 Ohm carbon 1W  would do it there too I think.    

Very very poor DX propagation this weekend only single hop except for FJ/W6JKV  hrd some time . Friday morning  has been super to JA and HL =first?  at 6m what I heard off but  QRL again wrong timing.   Friday afternoon X-flare  and some weak Aurora Worked OY3JE  70.200  some ES but in North-East PA  absolute baseline noise at 6m.  I doubt there will be another JA opening here since the Ionosphere need to recover again and then it will be late July ??  I hope  I'm wrong.  50MHz  has always been very much poorer in the N-E  even if  only 200km more N-E  we seem to be just to much into the auroral zone.  Big antenna's can not compensate this.  Plus having a full-time job and travel al lot the effective 6m DX season compiles to a few hours.  But of course it is nice to have a big antenna system to listen for the local beacons in tropo range.
