Good 160 and 80m again with aurora this afternoon
Now I know when to catch DX at top band.
If there is aurora reported in the afternoon heat up your rig for greyline DX at 160M. This happened now more than 4 times in a row! no coincidence
btw running 5W on 160 and 80 and 20W at 4M but WSPR does not offer a power per band set option that would be an enhancement and scheduler would be nice to have.
now the bad news besides some football tournament ....
I can upload Pictures from Picasa easily to the free webalbum.
But then those pictures seems to be lost or hidden when this blogs offers to use a picture from my Web album the Folder recent / screen uploads is not visible.
Take Skype a very good program from the beginning.
But I see no improvements in the latest versions Some functions that where useful disappeared like simply write in the top field about where you are or what you do. This is is now hidden somewhere deep in the settings.
And what happened to the good old bookmarks list function in Chrome and Firefox? I can only make a bookmark not use it.
Are those bookmarks only collected to gather information about me?
I use Google to get to my favourites.
Or I have to write it down on a paper ?.
Some "improvements" are a step back.
Almost every-time when starting the PC or browser there is a message like : something went wrong sorry for the inconvenience.
Or some not-solicited Skype plug-in crashes the browser. Every few hours a new flash-player update is available from Adobe???
Propagation has been down since last weekend then we had good openings State-side. I was in Germany and did watch the play DL-NL and we lost it ...
During that painful lost match my DELL Optiplex GX620 mini desktop crashed. I left home with WSPR running on 4m and could remote control it over Teamviewer if needed.
Suddenly my PC was off-line.
The Dell will not boot anymore it does not even give the Bios boot screen. The Fan starts in hi speed does not step down.
Must be a Main board issue. Possible blown up capacitors is an item in Dell of similar types found by Googling.
Those 6.3V 2200uF types are vulnerable to blow up.
The HD serial ATA is hopefully okay it never comes to booting Windows the error is on lower level. I have to connect it to a 2nd SATA cable in a bigger workstation at QRL. Or Lenovo's
eSATA+ USB connector? which I don't have.
Now using my Dell notbook D420 for WSPR and N1MM logger. But the latest log database is still on the other HD I hope..
Should have made a backup before.. .
I was at 50MHz in the VHF-R1 contest. Poor propagation Saturday
Sunday a bit better with some ES to East 4X1IF was the best DX worked on the HF dipole I had the antenna switch in wrong position..
Some nice tropo was possible: >900km to GJ6YB/P and TM1W
Later heard SV3BVS/B strong and worked I8PQI as only real ES QSO Saturday
But N1MM Telnet generated an array error Popup messages.
LY2SA and LX7I triggered TELNET/Database errors suddenly
and every time again when those 2 where spotted by Reverse Beacons my screen was filling up and the logger blocked...
This thing seem to happen more in VHF contests. Never seen before.
Those VB- Popup MSgBOX function must be avoided in programs
I have told this few years ago on the N1MM reflector but never got response. Then is was another error loop about: cannot start this action because the other process is busy.
N1MM software is using the Visual Basic Msgbox.print function for errors this box stops all program functions and needs a confirmation by the user to continue.
This is leading to a program crash circle with no way out.
In this case Telnet is generating an error message when a specific callsign is spotted the whole screen is dressed with useless popups
My advice: replace MsgBox items in N1MM by a popup form.
