PA0O ham radio

WSPR decodes of ZL >18.000km  observed almost daily  but  over longpath  is still rare  in the evening  we have N-America and S-America  the path to east is dark. WSPR reports a ZL decode in the evening  as shortpath DX  it should be way over 20.000km   ( 40.000- 18.312 roughly?)  Visible aurora was reported in PA I have not seen it  only Friday I heard Aurora signals on 50MHz. On Monday visible Aurora was reported  on our latitude but strange I have not heard or seen spots  of aurora propagation. Otherwise I would have been looking outside for visible aurora. I always thought that visible aurora without strong radio aurora reports was not possible? The Doppler effect of AURORA reflections make the decoding traces spread out. No free spots to find on the bands 14MHz is crowded  except   around 14230 But that is the TV channel!   24x7 TV  don't you dare to start a cq  on top of the continuous digi TV transmissions!     Had to move above 29MHz to find a  more or less clear freq. east / south east EU  always S units stronger Propagation did not favor NW-EU   as usual.  HG3M  reporting 59005  5Watts ! having  run on 40m a joke I believe 5 is 5K   or are they using the old shortwave BC stations? running 50kW  or so?   So watch if this HG3M is entering the QRP class it is 100% cheating    SSB is not my thing but for the ARRL I make an exception And phone  does not have the RBN spots so it is way more difficult to find new multy's in the very very crowded bands Bad timing  to have an Aurora disturbance  at Friday evening just before the start. this Saturday morning WSPR  28Mhz  we had a  late start of  VK  decodes  After 2 VK less days   since  the ARRL the band was "closed"  to East  Some HAM's believe that only because of the contest activity  the band seems to be "open"  But with WSPR as a propagation tool it is  easy to check the real state of  propagation. The ARRL is the mother of all Radio contests dating back to 1927 following the early Trans Atlantic tests started  1920 Hiram Percy Maxim, founder of the ARRL, ca. 1914. Hirham was a well equipped radio amateur having a 1kW Tx but the range of radio contacts was only a few 100 miles in those days that is why radio messages had to be relayed over more points.
