QRV 23cm/ 1296 MHz again after 30 years....

"mast head" placed close behind 1m2 dish in plastic box (ACTION 1€50)  XVTR  1.5W , PLL 1150 DF9NP ,   PA PE1CMO  30-40W rF ( hoping) pre-amp  SPF5189z eBay  lowered to 2V7 still draws 160mA ! I replaced the original SPF5189z because it almost looked like short circuit  at 5V an UA78L05 could not supply it! needed a UA7805 200mA+  PCB heath up  need a better quality SMA - N  adapter   first QSO with  local PA0T very loud 9++  After 30 years  back on 23                                              yesterday evening in nice temperature and no wind finally.  A good time to place the disc + XVTR up The modified DB6NT with PLL 1050MHz l.o. that was prepared last year up in the mast for the real test. In JO33HG  could copy  4 beacons reasonable almost 100% 419 ...

U3S Ultimate3 and 5WPA experience

Sorry enough  after just a  few day's testing the U3S / 5WPA  at 50 / 28 / 21  Mhz   Output was lost  after 15:42Z  Monday 17-4   The FET RD15HVF1  died  possible by statics? 1 genuine left but repairing this 5W PA  ? A lot of effort and trouble  to bring 1W to 4W at 28MHz  The U3S single BS170  already is 1W at 5V! I thought that it would be an easy job to have 5W+ with the 5WPA RD15HVF1 But no way! something must be wrong somewhere the power gain is 0 - maximum 6dB only The 5W-PA is good for 10MHz and lower but very disappointing at higher bands. The signal from the U3S straight from the Si5351a needs to be filtered before it drives the RD15 and after the 5W-PA again i think  Far from sinus shaped signal at the output of the PA behind the LPF filter.  Be aware! the fake RD15HVF1 is still offered at eBay  5 for 5$ It was only my 2nd bad buy at eBay  of many purc...

SOLAR EDGE 8k on air...

50MHz  antenna direction SOLAR EDGE 8k the fun is gone  with 20dB  extra noise 12 hours a day The SOLAR EDGE  SE8k at 50m distance  contaminates the whole  HF and VHF spectrum  1 to 146 MHz  !! with noise and 200kHz separated digi trash this noise is maximum at the display opening in the case   it is generated by the EMC disaster CPU  The unit is still under guaranty so i can not open it to see what is wrong The provided HF filtering in the PV power lines did not help  since the  RFI is not on these lines  Wire mesh over the display area weakened the noise just a tiny bit The single phase Solar Edge PV converter with optimizer seems to be clean So what is wrong with the SE8k ?? Antenna at minimum noise 474.2 kHz  no sign anymore of WD2XSH/17   last time seen TA decodes was 25 March  Might be that transmissions are stopped fttb  the Aurora did kill all DX on th...

U3S 5W PA continued

My   U3S project  is  almost finished it took a lot of solder smoke. The plan is a WSPR radio beacon operating  as PU7ZWT from HI11ln at the allowed bands 160m 80m 15m 12m 10m and 6m with about 5W power at 12 10 and 6 The 5W PA could not reach 5W level  at the higher bands. With the PA  inside the case using the bottom of case as heatsink is effective 20W DC input it stays cool. But i had some self oscillation issues and unwanted reboot at TX start. No short thin coax but a twisted wire connection between U3S and the LPF unit resulted in more output. A single BS170 reached 700mW at 5V 28MHz and 600mW at 50MHz With this drive level it should be easy to reach   5W with the PA if the power gain was 10dB but is is not. Important is reading excellent manual and application notes before starting  contructing That I did not good enough.   My notes: 1   10R to the gate of the RD15HVF1 this mod must be done. 2   The ...

U3S continuing

now using a FOX 27MHz TCXO in the Synthesizer v1.4 PCB At 27.000.000 almost exact. The CAL setting for correction is disabled. The 27Xtal  was generating around 27.003.0120 So now the drift is coming close to the K3 stability. My old IC706  impresses me even more it can run WSPR stable at 144.489 MHz without the Icom optional 30MHz TCXO (obsolet) Will not order a 30MHz VCXO  with the experience about TCXO's  i have now. QRP LABS note about some TCXO having discrete frequency steps is unfortunately valid for this  FOX924-27.00 Intolerable a for PLL frequency reference of course. If i had known that, obviously i would  have chosen a better suited type. Taitien 27MHz VCXO might be a better choice it is a bit gambling. Now a Taitien 27MHz is used the Si5351a is very stable stand alone and generates high quality WSPR tones. The specification does not mention the method ,  temperature compensation or correction?   My ...
